Kさん一家は、2人の子供を連れてコロナ禍で東京を離れ、カラマツに囲まれた浅間山を望む広大な土地を購入し、軽井沢に移り住むことを決めた。
2階建てのこの家は、東西にわずかに湾曲した長くてシンプルなボリュームで構成されている。北側は設計GLから3.5mほど上にある道路に面し、南側には斜面から張り出した大きなテラスがある。構造は木造で、南北で2つの異なる形の屋根に覆われている。南側は2.5階の書斎や各居室の南面に大きな開口部を設けるために切妻屋根とし、北側は道路から見た際のマッシブな印象を軽減させるために入母屋屋根とした。エコロジカル・フットプリントを最小限に抑え、周囲の環境に溶け込ませるために、外壁材には敷地内で伐採されたカラマツが使用されている。
内部空間は、ほぼ全ての居室はナラ材、天井はヒノキ材としている。しかし、ベンガラ色で染められたエントランスと2つの“離れ“は独特の雰囲気を醸し出している。外階段を降った先のベンガラ色のエントランスは、メインの建物と和室を隔てる役割を担っている。1つ目の“離れ“である和室は、ゲストルームとしての利用を想定しており、藍色に染めた和紙で構成された床の間が空間にしっとりとしたアクセントを演出する。床は本畳となぐり加工のタモの板で仕上げている。2つ目の“離れ“である書斎は、屋根の棟木の真下に位置している。部屋は、やわらかい金色の和紙で覆われ、リビングダイニングキッチンの上部吹抜けに吊り下げられている。
軽井沢町において高気密高断熱性能住宅を実現するにあたり、「離れのある家」では下記のような工夫をした。
・外壁に高性能グラスウール100㎜充填断熱＋ポリスチレンフォーム66㎜の付加断熱
・屋根に合計200㎜のポリスチレンフォーム
・床下に高性能グラスウール100㎜充填断熱＋ポリスチレンフォーム40㎜の付加断熱
・窓は全てトリプルガラス＋南側大開口部は高性能木製トリプルガラスサッシ「Smart WIN」を採用。
Low Energy Building相当の性能を実現。

The K. family with their two children decided to leave Tokyo at the time of Covid to go and live in Karuizawa, where they bought a large, wooded plot of land on Mount Asama.
The two-story house is presented as a long and simple volume that is slightly curved. It is placed on a flat area, below a dirt road to the north and extends to the south by a large terrace overhanging the slope. Made of wooden structures, it is covered by two different roof shapes: to the south a gable type (kirizuma) whose shape allows to accommodate the upper floor; to the north a hipped gable type (irimoya) allows to reduce the visual mass of the building from the road. In order to minimize its ecological footprint and integrate it into its environment, the house is covered with wooden slats cut from the trunks of larches cut on the plot.
Inside, all the rooms are just floored in oak and their ceilings are slatted in cypress. Only the entrance, dyed in bengara red, and the two annexes add a unique touch. The entrance porch below the outer staggered staircase separates the main building from a “Japanese” annex, the blue room, which is used to receive a guest or a relative. It has an alcove (tokonoma) and its floor is covered with tatami mats and ash planks planed with an adze. The second annex houses the office, which is located just under the ridge of the roof. The room, entirely covered in gold Japanese paper, is suspended above the common family space.
In order to realize a highly airtight and highly insulated house in Karuizawa, the following measures have been implemented.
– Insulation: 100mm of high-performance glass wool insulation on the exterior walls + 66mm of polystyrene foam; 200mm of polystyrene foam on the roof; 100mm of high-performance glass wool insulation under the floor + 40mm of polystyrene foam
– All windows are triple-glazed + the large opening on the south side uses high-performance wooden triple-glazed sash “Smart WIN”.
This leads to performance equivalent to a low energy building: Annual heating load / 24.01 (kWh/m2); Actual C value / 0.4; Ua value / 0.28 (area classification 2); insulation grade / 6
